Growing up, English Language Arts and History were my favorite subjects. I could not wait until it was time to learn. As a teacher I am privileged to share my passion of learning with others. My newest unit creation, "Recontruction under Construction," combined elements from the Georgia Performance Standard ELA5C1 and elements from Georgia Performance Standard SS5H2. Even though I am teaching English Language Arts I wanted to incorporate the content area of Social Studies into the lesson in order to access the student's prior background knowledge on Reconstruction. I also felt it necessary to provide repetition, and the opportunity for students to realize all subjects interrelated. The unit consisted of whole group, small group, and literacy centers to enhance learning. One of the key components of being a successful teacher is organization. In today's technological age there are many versatile online storage tools such as wikispaces,that can be utilized in the classroom. Wikispaces provide a safe storage place for created lesson plans and materials. Teachers can save information for future use,and easily print activities in time of need. Students and parents can also access a wiki online. Also, updates to a lesson plans may be made in the future. Not only does my wiki contain organized lessons and activities specific to my unit "Reconstruction under Construction," but also tons of helpful resources needed to teach content reading, provide additional practice, and enrichment.
